(coffee with cream)

(coffee with cream)

when you shed light on my darkness

I won’t illuminate

like sunshine on shadows-

instant vibrancy revived,

polarity, clarity of color

-but like cream in coffee

the pour of that heavy white

sinks and spreads

spiraling down, down,

down to meet the bottom

to embrace my deepest, darkest bits

before blooming back to the top

to breathe:

      “I saw it all

and I’d find myself swirling

not as two separate entities

but as both light and dark dancing

as one

I am coffee with cream

and if you hold me like that

exactly as I am

I may just feel warm in your hands

on your tongue

without either of us

getting burnt

with      so      much      more

than a bitter aftertaste
